Sept 13: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived here for a two-day
official visit. He was received at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport by
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and others.
NSA Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar were also present. Japanese
PM is accompanied by wife Akie Abe and a delegation of business captains also.
Mr Abe is on a crucial two-day diplomatic engagement -- the 4th Modi-Abe Summit
-- wherein the two leaders are expected to give the 'Special Strategic and
Global Partnership' between the two countries its "future direction".
Tomorrow the visiting dignitary will join Prime Minister Modi to lay the
foundation stone of the 508-km-long Mumbai-Ahmadabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR).
The first bullet train at the cost of Rs 1,08,000-crore is expected to be
operational by 2022. There will be delegation level talks between two sides at
around 1200 noon tomorrow. A few agreements are expected to be signed, Joint
Secretary East Asia, Pranay Verma, has said. "The visit has a wide
spectrum of agenda,’’ he has said. Mr Abe will also participate at an
India-Japan Business Plenary session before leaving for Tokyo tomorrow. UNI
