New Delhi, Nov 8: On the first anniversary of demonetisation, senior Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday demanded that the Government and RBI should release RBI Board's agenda, background note and Dr Raghuram Rajan's note on the decision by the government.
'In interest of transparency, Govt/RBI should release RBI Board's agenda, background note and Dr Raghuram Rajan's note. If govt is confident of its decision, why does it fear releasing these documents? ' Mr Chidambaram said in a tweet. On government claims that black money was eliminated, he alleged that the 'eliminated' black money would soon surface in the Gujarat election campaign. 'Black money eliminated says Govt. Let the Gujarat election campaign start and you will find the 'eliminated' black money. Govt says black money was laundered through note exchange after demonetisation. Who facilitated it ? It was the same Govt,' Mr Chidambaram tweeted. Describing demonetisation as a failure, he said, 'Cash with public Rs 15 lakh crore and increasing, will soon reach November 2016 level of Rs 17 lakh crore.
'Artificial reduction of cash in circulation is one of the reasons for lower demand and lower growth.'The Congress is observing the first anniversary of demonetisation as a 'Black day '. UNI
