New Delhi, Jan 8: Telecom Minster Manoj Sinha on Monday said his ministry has now begun working to roll out the second phase of the Bharat Net project by December this year; ahead of the scheduled March 2019 deadline.
Speaking at an event to mark the completion of first phase of Bharat Net project here, he said with completion of Phase-1 of the ambitious Bharat Net project one lakh gram panchayats (GP) have been provided hi-speed broadband connectivity.
He warned the officials and other stake-holders associate with the project of stern action for any laxity in execution of the project.
Stressing on the need to incorporate financial incentives for performance under Bharat Net, Mr Sinha said the vision and the mission of the country is to connect India to realise the goal of Prime Minister’s Digital India by bridging the digital divide. 
On this occasion he also felicitated dozen of officials of different departments and implementing partners of Phase-1 of the project.
BharatNet was launched in October, 2011 to provide broadband connectivity to all 2.5 Lakh Gram Panchayats in the country. UNI
