Sangli, Maharashtra, Jan 13: In a tragic incident, six young wrestlers were killed on the spot while eight others were seriously injured, when their jeep collided with a sugarcane tractor at Wangi near Kadegaon tehsil town of this district on Kadegaon-Sangli Road on Saturday morning, police sources said.
According to Chinchani-Wangi Police, youth wrestlers of Kranti wrestling complex of Kundal of this district, were returning home by a jeep, after participating in wrestling competition Aundh in Satara district. At Wangi near Kadegaon-Sangli tehsil town, speedy jeep collided with a sugarcane tractor resulting in the death of six wrestlers on the spot while eight others were seriously injured, who were admitted in the Sangli Civil Hospital.
Of Six, police identified five deceased wrestlers as Shubham Ankush Ghadge (23), Saholi, Kadegaon tehsil; Saurabh Anil Mane (20) Malkhe in Karad tehsil; Avinash Sarjerao Gaikwad (21), Khupire, Shirala tehsil of this district; Akash Dadaso Desai (23) Kale in Karad tehsil; and Vijay Patil (23). Sixth deceased is yet to be identified.
The injured wrestlers are: Tushar Dhanji Nikam (21), Shene in Karad tehsil; Sudarshan Sudesh Jadhav (19) Yenpe in Karad tehsil; Ajay Prakash Kaurde, Nigadi in Shirala tehsil of this district; Aniket Ashok Jadhav (20), Kiwal, in Karad; Aniket Krushna Gavde (22), Dudhondi in Pakistan tehsil of this district; Pratik Nikam; Anil Patil; and Ritesh Chopade. Police is investigating the cause of accident. UNI
