Kolkata, Feb 7: The West Bengal Government is trying its best to make life easier for everyone
linked to the tea industry.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee takes a special interest in
ensuring that this agricultural heritage of the state gets all the help
possible, despite all the troubles, some linked to miscreant elements, in
recent years.
This was once again proved when Amit Mitra, the State Finance Minister, announced fresh incentives for the tea industry.
Dr Mitra has proposed to fully exempt tea gardens from agricultural income tax for the financial years 2018-19 and 2019-20.
Apart from this, he announced the exemption of education cess and rural employment cess on green tea leaves for 2018-19.
As it is, the government gives a special package of foodgrains under the Khadya Sathi Scheme for tea garden workers and their families in the sick and closed gardens, among other affected groups.
For the workers and non-workers and their families in the other tea gardens, which includes the three Hill subdivisions of Darjeeling district, there is the normal subsidy through the Khadya Sathi Scheme. UNI
