Lucknow, Mar 13: Senior Congress leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Begum Hamida
Habibullah passed away here on Tuesday morning.
Hamida, 102-year-old, was closely associated with several
NGOs in Lucknow and was the founder member of renowned girls college in Lucknow.
Family members said her burial will take place in the evening at her family native village Saidanpur in the adjoining Barabanki district.
Begum had an illustrious political career . She joined active politics in 1965, after her husband's retirement from the Army.
She served as an elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Haidergarh (District Barabanki), State Minister of Social and Harijan Welfare, National Integration & Civil Defence from 1971–73, and Tourism Minister from 1971-74.
Begum was also a member of the Executive Committee of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) till 1980 and a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) from 1969.
After working in the capacity of president of Mahila Congress, UPCC from 1972-76, Hamida was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1976 till 1982. UNI
