Bengaluru, Mar 8: The Karnataka may became the first Indian State to have its own flag ‘Nada
Dwaja’ with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah approving the newly flag designed by a
Committee appointed for the purpose.
However it is subject to approval by the Union Government.
Speaking to newsmen on Thursday at his official residence ‘Krishna’ after the meeting with pro-Kannada organisations, Mr Siddaramaiah said that the proposal for a separate state flag will be sent to the Union Government after the state cabinet gave its approval.
The Union government need to officially make a declaration on the flag, he added.
Replying to a question, Mr Siddaramaiah said that “there is no mention in the Constitution about the States should not have a separate flag. It was a long pending demand of people of the State and today it was approved.”
The Flag will have three colours with Yellow on the top, white in the middle and Red colour in the bottom. On the White colour there will be State embalm affixed.
Noted writer Ham Pa Nagarajaiah, speaking on the occasion, said that “only State embalm has been maintained since the words ‘Satya meva jayathe’ may not clearly visable when the flag is flying. It was a long standing demand of the people of Karnataka to have a ‘Nada Dwaja’ (State Flag) and it was unanimously approved in the meeting.” UNI
