Hyderabad, Apr 18: The five-day 22nd National Congress of the CPI (M), the highest decision-making platform of the party, commenced here on Wednesday, amid hectic speculation that the meet will seal the party's political line.
Telangana armed struggle veteran and senior party activist Mallu Swarayjam hoisted the party flag at the RTC Kalyana Mandapam, the venue of the congress, heralding its beginning.
CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury delivered the inaugural address touching upon the party's political line and its future agenda.
A big poser in the political circles is whether the incumbent CPI (M) General Secretary will get a second term since the election of a new party chief is also listed in the agenda of the meet.
More than 750 delegates from different parts of the country, leaders from other political parties besides 70 observers are attending the congress, which takes place once in three years.
