Padma Shri 'Doctor Didi' passes away

Indore, MP, Aug 14 : Padma Shri awardee gynaecologist Bhakti Yadav – who was affectionately referred to as Doctor Didi – passed away here today. She was 92. She breathed her last at around 0845 hrs this morning. Dr Yadav was ailing since a long time. In April this year, Madhya Pradesh Finance Minister Jayant Malaiya – who is also the District Incharge Minister – and the then Collector P Narhari presented the award to her at her house. She was unable to attend the award function in New Delhi. Family sources said that Dr Yadav – who was born at nearby Mahidpur on April 3, 1926 – had completed her MBBS from the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College in 1952. She was the lone female student in her batch. She married her colleague Dr Chandra Singh Yadav in 1957. She was known for helping deliver thousands of babies without taking any fees. UNI
