Shopian, Mar 26 :   To review the preparedness of District Administration for containing corona virus, the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Shopian, Chaudhary Mohammad Yasin visited District Hospital Shopian and took stock of of various facilities there, here today.

He was accompanied by the Medical Superintendent DH Shopian, BMO and other concerned.

The DC directed the officials to set up a dedicated help desk near the parking area of the hospital for the convenience of the patients coming to hospital for treatment. He took round of the isolation room and flu corner and took stock of the arrangements. He directed the hospital administration to ensure proper sanitation in the hospital and follow a daily cleaning routine besides, providing ample amount of hand sanitiser and soaps to the people visiting the health institute.

DC directed the Medical Superintendent to install the signage at each point for the convenience of the patients and attendants.

While taking stock of the quarantine home set up at GHSS building the DC directed the health authorities to complete the remaining work of electrification and ensure sanitation of toilets and bathrooms at the earliest.

The DC urged the patients not to panic and adhere to the advisories issued by the District administration Shopian for containing the incidents of COVID-19. He also requested the people not to visit hospitals unnecessarily or for minor ailments and maintain social distance.

He appealed the people to follow all guidelines and instructions issued by the District Administration and Health department to avert the threat, not to panic and heed rumours spread on social media about the covid-19. He said that the district administration has already made adequate arrangements to combat the situation.


Shopian, Mar 22 :  District Development Commissioner, Shopian, Chowdary Muhammad YaseenSunday said that District Administration has made full-fledged arrangements for the students coming from different countries.

The DDC Shopian informed appreciated public for cooperating administration in fighting war with Covid-19.

The DDC briefed media, saying that “we are very thankful to public in cooperating district administration advisory very strictly in countering spread of COVID-19.”

Further, he said that district administration has set multi-quarantine tine facilities for the students coming from abroad. He added that restriction would continue to remain in place across the district.


Srinagar, Jun 23 :  An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir Sunday, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Shopian, following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

He said as the forces were conducting searches, the hiding militants fired upon them.

The security forces retaliated the firing, triggering off a gunbattle, the official said, adding there were no reports of any casualties so far.                  [Agencies]


Srinagar, Jun 11 :  Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday, police said. 

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Awneera area of Shopian in early hours after receiving information about presence of terrorists there, a police spokesman said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after terrorists opened fire towards security forces.

"Two terrorists were killed in the retaliatory firing by the security forces. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the scene of the encounter," he said.

The spokesman said the identity and the group affiliation of the terrorists were being ascertained.                [Agencies]

          SHOPIAN, OCTOBER 05: Commissioner/Secretary, Power Development Department, Hirdesh Kumar, today visited Shopian and took a comprehensive review of schemes including SAUBHAGYA, UJALA, PMDP, DeenDayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana and directed the concerned for achieving 100% target of electrification of all households under SAUBHAGYA by the month of December.
            Commissioner/Secretary, Power Development Department, was accompanied by Chief Engineer Kashmir Hashmat Qazi.
            Taking strong note of instances where in a single house, on one hand multiple families avail electricity from a single registered connection and on the other hand avail subsidized ration from FCS&CA stores by producing multiple ration Cards, Kumar instructed for correcting such anomalies so that every household is registered with the department for availing benefits under various Central and State sponsored schemes.
            The XENs were directed to increase their efforts to complete the process of crosschecking the beneficiaries availing electricity with ground reality so that unauthorized connections could be identified and eliminated.
            District Development Commissioner, Shopian, Dr Owais Ahmed assured full cooperation and coordination to PDD for regularizing unauthorized connections and for uploading the updated details of beneficiaries on the concerned portal. Special Gram Sabhas are being held for identification of beneficiaries and generation of awareness.
            The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Saleem, Superintendent Engineer Abdul Lateef Shah, Executive Engineer ED Shopian, Irshad Hussain, Executive Engineer STD, Shopian/Pulwama Farooz Ahmad Wani and other concerned officers.

 SHOPIAN OCTOBER 02: As part of the public outreach programme, District Development Commissioner Shopian, Dr Owais Ahmed today held a Mega Grievance Redressal Camp at District headquarters wherein  people from all sections of the society gathered to put forth their grievances and demands.
On the occasion, various departments like Horticulture, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Handicrafts and Handlooms, etc held an exhibition of important schemes and encouraged the people to reap the benefits from these schemes. DDC Shopian while addressing to demands of the public, ensured that there will be no delay in execution of works that are of urgent public need. He also directed the staff of government departments and JK bank, in particular, to ensure time-bound delivery of services to the public. 
People on this occasion raised issues pertaining to macadamization of roads, potable water supply, issues pertaining to solid waste disposal, functioning of KVK etc. DDC directed the concerned departments to immediately take the necessary measures to address these issues.
          Among others, the event was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Shopian, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Shopian, Assistant Commissioner Development Shopian, Cluster Head JK Bank Shopian, District Panchayat Officer, Block Development Officers and other concerned officers.

Srinagar, Sep 22: A day after three policemen were abducted and killed by militants, security forces Saturday launched a massive cordon and search operation in Shopian and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The cordon and search operation (CASO) was launched in at least eight villages in Pulwama and Shopian districts in south Kashmir early this morning, a police official said.

He said a joint team of police, Army and paramilitary CRPF launched the CASO to flush out militants from the area.The official said the operation was going on when last reports came in.

Three cops were Friday abducted and later killed by militants in Shopian district.

Meanwhile, clashes broke out between groups of youth and security forces during the CASO at Shermal in Shopian, the official said.

He said youth pelted stones on the security forces carrying out searches in the area.

The forces fired tear gas shells to quell the protests, the official said, adding, clashes were going on.

SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 20: Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Parvez Sajad Ganai, today chaired a meeting of District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC) to review the effective implementation of the Self-Help Group of Engineers scheme (April –August 2018) here.
Superintendent Engineer (Hydraulic-PHE/I&FC) Shopian, Chief Planning Officer, Chief Education Officer, Assistant Commissioner Development, Divisional Forest Officer, District Panchayati Officer, Assistant Director Employment, Technical Officer Mughal Road Division, Career Counselling Officer District Employment and Counselling Centre and representatives of Self-Help Group of Engineers participated in the meeting.
The meeting was informed that by ending August 2018, as many as 24 Self Help Groups of Engineers are registered with District Employment and Counselling Centre Shopian involving 99 Engineers.
 It was given out that the Self-Help Groups have been allotted 31 works during the CFY involving the cost of Rs 145.33 lakh by PHE, R&B and Mughal Road Division Shopian. 
Directions were passed that all the line departments shall necessarily comply with the set guidelines and strictly allot the works quota to SHGs without fail.
Further, the Chief Education Officer, Divisional Forest Officer and ACD Shopian were directed to work out the modalities and accommodate these SHG of Engineers while inviting tenders for the works to be executed from time to time.
Representatives of SHGs demanded that the release of payments should be prioritized in favor of them and their motivational level be sustained by providing them with the handholding support.
All the concerned stakeholders were directed by ADC to work with utmost zeal and dedication so that the cherished goal of providing gainful and dignified self- employment to the SHG engineers is achieved.

SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 20: The Department of Fisheries stocked various natural water bodies of Shopian district with quality Trout Fish Seeds to boost their production.
As per the fisheries department, around 5,000 fish seeds of trout have been stocked in the trout streams in the district which provide suitable conditions for growth of such species.
On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian Shabir Hussain Bhat said that the Department of Fisheries under Extension Programme is stocking the natural water bodies of district Shopian with quality Trout fish seed.
The seed is procured from Trout Fish Farming Project Kokernag. The aim of the stocking of fish seed in the natural water bodies is to increase the productivity and the fish catch.
It was said that regular sustainable stocking programmes are ensured for the purpose of fish replenishment and to have a sustainable livelihood for the fishermen of the district.
Assistant Director Fisheries Shopian Mohammad Aslam said that the fish seeding for the year 2018-19, is 74000 carp fish and 5000 trout fishes.
He also said the stocking of the high quality of fish seeds would benefit fishermen of the district who are registered with the department. 

SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 17: A fortnight long Swachhta Hi Seva program started at various Government Educational Institutions in district Shopian on the directions of the district administration.
The program was inaugurated by the head of colleges and schools at their respective institutions. As part of the inaugural event a cleanliness drive was organised in the colleges and school premises by the concerned principals and head masters.
On the occasion the teaching staff, non-teaching staff and students started a flagship program from the colleges and schools. A large number of cadets participated in the drive and cleared garden and other areas of the schools and colleges. The waste collected was segregated and disposed of in colour code bins.
The programme began with an oath where the heads of colleges and schools along with the staff and students as well as the locals pledged to make the Swachhta mission successful.
On the occasion the speakers highlighted the importance of cleanliness and said cleanliness is not the responsibility of only few people but it is collective social responsibility. They urged that the drive should not be limited to the day but round the year.
Awareness rallies and other informative and educative events were also organized. Prizes were also distributed among the students for their outstanding performances.

SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER, 13 District Development Commissioner Shopian, Dr Owais Ahmed today chaired the District Level Review Committee (DLRC) meeting to review the performance of banks and line departments under ACP during the 1st quarter of the financial year 2018-19.
The Meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer Shopian, Ghulam Jeelani, Lead District Manager, Abdul Rashid Mir, Cluster Head J&K Bank Mohammad Aslam Ganaie, DDM NABARD and District Coordinators of all the banks. Besides Chiefs/District officers, heads of all the line departments of the State Government/sponsoring agencies were also present in the meeting.
The meeting discussed in detail progress and achievements made by the banks in the implementation of various government-sponsored schemes like Kisan Credit Card, NRLM, Housing for all, Handloom, Weavers MUDRA, SHGs, JLGs, Artisan Credit Card, and Stand Up India. Besides the sponsored schemes, loans provided by banks under direct lending mode was also discussed.
Giving the details about the performance of Banks, through PowerPoint Presentation, the meeting was told that total deposits up to 30-06-2018 reached to Rs 838.52 crore, total advances to Rs 1071.44 crore, while as CD ratio stands at 127.78 percent.
On the occasion, DDC exhorted upon the banks to conduct massive awareness camps about the various banking schemes in collaboration with concerned departments to increase the credit flow in various sectors. He stressed upon greater coordination between banks and various line departments.
The DDC stressed on enhancement in overall credit flow of banks in the district which is important for financial impetus and improving income levels and thereby raising the standard of living of people.
He called for focused attention on dairying and sheep husbandry sector for creation of income generating units in far-flung areas.
DDC instructed the officials to spread awareness of schemes including loans for SCs/STs , women’s, mapping of schools with banks, Prime Minister Jan DhanYojna, installation of POS and opening of new accounts among the masses by beating of drums across the district.
He also advised the representatives of financial institutions and sponsoring agencies to come forward and help the urban poor of the capital for eradicating poverty, unemployment and reaching out to the poorest of poor.
The DDC instructed all bank authorities to ensure awareness with regard to financial literacy camps particularly in the rural and semi-urban belts of the district to educate and aware masses about various banking products and Government sponsored schemes.
The line departments were asked to sponsor self-employment local cases at an earliest so that these beneficiaries get the assistance.

SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 11: Excise Commissioner J&K, Talat Parvez Rohella along with Deputy Commissioner Excise (Executive) Kashmir Mohammad Farooq Dar, SDM Zainapora, SDPO Zainapora, Tehsildar Zainapora,SHO Zainapora  and officials of Excise department today destroyed bhang cultivation on 400 kanals of land in village Melhura Tehsil Zainapora  in a drive against illegal narcotics cultivation.
On the occasion, Talat asked the Revenue authorities to help in the identification of bhang cultivators so that effective measures to stop its production are taken and persons involved are booked under appropriate provisions of law.
He also said that these activities are detrimental to the entire society, particularly to the young generation. He stressed on creating more awareness so that the drug menace is eradicated completely from the society. 
The team has been entrusted with the job to conduct random monitoring and mapping for the eradication of wild bhang grown along roadsides and riverbanks. The team will also conduct destruction of bhang and bung crop in its infancy stage.
It was also given out that the stern necessary action as per the law would be initiated against the offenders who grow, harvest, store, transport buy/sell or deal with such illegal activities.

SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 09: District Information Centre Shopian organised Seminar in collaboration with Azad Cultural Sangam Shopian today at Al-Mustafa Educational Trust Mashwara Shopian in which students of class 4th-8th participated.
The theme of the seminar was ‘Importance of Education”. The programme was attended by District Information Officer Showkat Ahmad Khan, Principal Al Mustafa Educational Trust, Members of Azad Cultural Sangam Shopian, Staff and children of the school.
The speakers at the seminar highlighted the role of Education in the lives of people. They said that getting a proper education is very necessary to get success and happy life just like food is necessary for the healthy body. The speakers further elaborated that education helps a person to improve his/her status of mind, body, and spirit by instilling confidence.
Prizes were distributed among the best speakers. 

SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 07: Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Dr Owais Ahmed today held a meeting to review the traffic management plan for the district.
The meeting was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Dy Superintendent of Traffic, Tehsildar Shopian, Assistant Regional Transport Officer and officials representing other departments.
The DDC stressed on the need to enforce new efficient route plans and initiate sustained action against traffic rules violators. He said that the traffic management is of foremost concern and every effort is being put to resolve all issues related to it and provide efficient transport facility to the public.
The DDC also directed removal of encroachments in the town especially near fruit mandi and other places of public importance.
He said that the administration is also mulling to start paid roadside parking which will ease traffic congestion.

SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 06: To ensure smooth conduct of upcoming election of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) in the district, the district election authorities today organised  a day-long training program for Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant returning officers (AROs) held under the chairmanship of District Level Master Trainers here today at mini secretariat Arhama Shopian.
DLMT asked all the ROs and AROs to work in synergy and coordination to ensure free, fair and transparent upcoming urban local bodies election.
On the occasion DLMT briefed about the preparations and activities being carried out in the district for upcoming municipal elections. He said the training on use of EVM and election related material was imparted to the trainees.
During the training session District Level Master Trainers gave power point presentation to participants regarding scrutiny filling up of nominations and completion of polling process till the conclusion of the declaration of the result.
Among others Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Sub Division Magistrate Zainapora, ROs and AROs and other concerned were also present.

SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 04: To mark the beginning of National Nutrition Month, Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Dr. Owais Ahmed today inaugurated a day-long State Level Workshop on POSHAN Abhiyan- the PMs Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment of children.
The launching ceremony, organized by, ICDS Department Shopian here at Mini Secretariat Arhama Shopian, was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Parvaiz Sajad Ganai, who is also Progamme Officer ICDS Shopian, besides, Scientists from KVK Shopian, Block Medical Officer,  CDPOs and other officers of concerned departments.
Emphasizing the role of nutrition for health, especially for children and women, the DDC said that POSHAN Abhiyan is one of the many important components of National Nutrition Mission aiming towards promoting positive behaviour change towards infants and young child feeding practices.
He said that the welfare of children forms the base for many schemes and policies and stressed on convergent efforts by all stakeholders to achieve the challenging task of eradicating malnutrition.
Maintaining basic health standards is not only aimed by India but United Nation has also set its goals for eradicating malnutrition, the DDC maintained.
The DDC appreciated all the, CDPOs and other concerned officers for putting dedicated efforts towards fighting malnutrition and asked them to prioritize rural, far flung and slum areas for extending the outreach of nutrition awareness.
The DDC also outlined the responsibilities of concerned functionaries to make the system efficient for the benefit of the children being covered under ICDS schemes.
The DDC entrusted upon concerned officers to form a working group to ensure that good quality food, clean drinking water shall reach the children. He further asked them to prepare a proposal for effective utilization of abandoned school buildings for the welfare of children and women.
The participants learned several key nutrition strategies and interventions including IYCF(Infant and Young child feeding),Food and Nutrition, Immunisation, Institutional Delivery, WASH(Water, Sanitation and Hygiene),De-worming, ORS-Zinc, Food Fortification, Dietary Diversification, Adolescent Nutrition, Maternal Health and Nutrition, ECD(Early childhood development)/ECCE(Early Childhood care and Education), Convergence, ICT-RTM(Information and Communication, Technology enabled Real Time Monitoring) and Capacity Building during the workshop.

SHOPAIN, AUGUST 30: Special excise team along with SDPO Zainapora and Tehsildar Zainapora today destroyed bhang cultivation over 40 kanals of land in Melhura Shopian in a drive against illegal narcotics cultivation.
The team has been constituted on the directions of Excise Commissioner J&K, M Raju to eradicate Bhang cultivation in Kashmir Division and check its cultivation, trafficking of narcotic-related substances and to get rid of the menace at its initial stage.
The team works under close supervision of Deputy Commissioner Excise (Executive) Kashmir Mohammad Farooq Dar. The excise teams have been directed to take tough measures against the Bhang cultivators.
The Revenue authorities have been asked to help in the identification of bhang cultivators so that effective measures to stop its production are taken and persons involved are booked under appropriate provisions of law.
Further, they have been directed to keep a close vigil on illicit trade of liquor, illicit trafficking and smuggling of Poppy/Bhang outside the Valley.

SHOPIAN, AUGUST 11: Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Owais Ahmed, today chaired a meeting here to finalize arrangements for smooth conduct of ensuing Independence Day celebrations in the district.
Among others, the meeting was attended by the Superintendent of Police Shopian, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian,  SDM Zainapora,  officers from CRPF and army,  executive engineers from R&B, PDD, PHE, Irrigation,  ACR,  CEO, CMO, Tehsildar Shopian, district and sectoral officers and other concerned. 
It was given out that the main function of the Day shall be held at District Police Lines (DPL) Shopian. The meeting was told that the full dress rehearsal shall be held on 13th August 2018 at the same venue.
The meeting was further informed that the contingents of JKP, CRPF, Fire & Emergency Services, students of various government-run and private schools shall participate in the march past parade followed by colourful cultural programs.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner impressed upon all the concerned to ensure assigned arrangements are put in place well in time for the smooth celebration of the National Day. 
Arrangements for illumination of main government buildings, seating arrangements,  barricading, public address system, availability of potable water, power supply, security, sanitation, parking arrangements,  traffic arrangements, adequate medical arrangements, and prize distribution were discussed threadbare in the meeting.
The DC also stressed on maintaining close coordination among different departments for the timely completion of the arrangements.  He also directed the Nodal officer to monitor the arrangements, activities made by the concerned departments.

SHOPIAN, AUGUST 07: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian, Owais Ahmed today convened a meeting to review progress and development under Horticulture sectors in the district.
Among others the meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, District Agriculture Officer, and other concerned.
During the meeting threadbare discussion were held regarding different schemes of horticulture sector in the district.
On the occasion the DDC directed the concerned that the soil testing teams should be mobilized for the benefit of farmers. He asked the concerned officials to identify the land for water harvesting tanks so that people do not face any difficulties in case of water scarccity. He further directed the concerned that to meet the demand of organic fertilizers, more vermicompost units should established.
He also directed the officials of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry and others to join the hands and work in cooperation to ensure better results in marketing, increase in agricultural and horticultural activities for providing a boost to the economy of the district.


SHOPIAN AUGUST 03:  The District Development Commissioner Shopian, Owais Ahmed, convened a meeting with bankers and line departments to review the implementation of the digidhan mission here today.
 Chief Planning Officer Shopian, Managers of all J&K Bank units in Shopian, Manager SBI Shopian and other officers of the line department were present on the occasion.
The mission is aimed at promoting a less cash economy and to provide the facility of seamless digital payment to people in a convenient manner.
On the occasion, the DDC said that the digidhan mission will not only work on spreading literacy about online payments but will also undertake promotion of best practices, processes, adoption and on-boarding systems across the ecosystem for a wide and quick uptake.
He said that with this move, the beneficiaries now need not move to the offices for payment and department will directly transfer payment to their already linked bank accounts.
“This step will not only ease out the whole process of disbursing payment to the beneficiaries but also remove the hurdles and makes it paperless besides eliminating delays in payment,” he added.
The DDC said that the measure will usher in much-needed transparency and funds will reach to the real beneficiaries on the ground.
