Sep 18: Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said the stand of the Centre on
the issue of Rohingyas remains the same and that there was a need to wait for
the decision of the court in the matter. Talking to reporters at the sidelines
of an even, Mr Singh said,'everyone is aware of our stand in the matter. Our
stand on the issue remains the same. Whatever decision has to be made will be
done by the Supreme court (SC). I think we should wait for court's decision.'
Earlier, talking to reporters, senior Lawyer Prashant Bhushan said that in its
affidavit filed before the Supreme court, the Central Government has said that
the continuance of illegal immigration of Rohingyas into India and their
continued stay has serious national security ramifications. According to Mr
Bhushan, the affidavit said that it was for the Centre to exercise essential
executive function by way of policy decision in the matter. Mr Bhushan said
that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken a stand contrary to
that taken by the Centre on the issue. UNI
