Ambassa
(Tripura), Oct 18: In a major boost to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),
hundreds of CPI(M) activists joined the saffron camp under 46 Surma assembly
constituency in the bordering sub-division of Kamalpur in this district where
BJP state vice president Subal Bhowmik embraced them into the party. The BJP
held two separate meetings at Chulubari area and remote Santosia market
yesterday. BJP Dhalai district committee member Paritosh Pal informed over
telephone, "In those two places almost 150 activists from 61 families joined
the party leaving CPI(M). Mr Bhowmik welcomed them into the party." It
might be mentioned here that, the 46 Surma assembly constituency remained to be
a den of the leftist in which opposition candidate won only once in 1972 in the
history of state's assembly election. For last two years or more BJP continued
its work there and became successful to pierce into the leftist vote bank and
now got into the position to give a tough fight to CPI(M), according to the
political analysts here. UNI
