Maharashtra, Oct 20: The ongoing indefinite strike launched by Maharashtra
State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) employees over pay hike entered its
fourth day here on Friday. Maharashtra State goverment home secretary issued
directions to all concerned officials including District Collector, RTOS,
Police Department and MSRTC officials on Friday to help private vehicles to
ferry stranded passengers to their destination, charging ST fares. According to
the official press statement issued here by District Collector Naval Kishore
Ram who also holds the post of District Disaster Management Authority,
"under the various sections of Disaster Management Act 2005 MSRTC
controller will allow private operator to use premises of MSRTC bus stands,
registering their details to ferry passengers on MSRTC fares for different
routes along with providing tight security arrangement till further orders in
order to clear rush during the festive session." Earlier, talks held
between Transport Minister Diwakar Raote, MSRTC officials and union
representatives failed to arrive at a negotiated settlement to end the strike.
Meanwhile, union representatives blamed the MSRTC administration for the
prevailing logjam and hardship caused to bus commuters. A senior
representatives of the ST Workers' Union said, "As per the rule, we had
given a notice for strike 40 days in advance. But the administration remained
under the impression that we would accept their terms." In support of the
striking employees AAP and Annadata Shetkari Sanghatana were also seen
extending their support to the protest and asked the government to address
their demands. Reacting over the decision of using bus stand premisses by
private operaters INTUC state organising secretary Suresh Jadhav told UNI that,
transport minister Diwakar Raote not handling the issue properly because Shiv
sena party employees union in MSRTC opposed to our strike.Our fight will be
continue untill we get justice even as private buses allow to carry passengers
our strike will continue,he added. UNI
