Ambassa, Feb 19: The six constituencies of the northern district of Dhalai recorded around 89 per cent of casting where people voted till midnight, leading to chaos among the polling staff and officials at different Electronic Voting Machine(EVM) collection centres, informed the election officials.
According to the information provided by the district election authority, 44 Raimavalley recorded 88.05 per cent votes, 45 Kamalpur recorded 89.05 per cent votes, 46 Surma recorded 88.80 per cent votes, 47 Ambassa recorded 91.11 per cent votes, 48 Karamcharra recorded 81 per cent votes and 49 Chawmanu recorded 76.73 per cent votes.
Due to the machinery problems and inefficiency of the polling staffs voting continued in many booths till midnight. Moreover, when the polling staffs reached their respective EVM collection centres, it also took long time as the receiving officials had to rectify many loopholes and faults. The irked polling staffs even pelted stones and abused the officials in centres like Kamalpur Class XII School where the process completed around 9 am this morning.
However, all the contesting parties thanked people as they expressed their opinion through EVMs bearing all the problems caused due to technical glitches. In some parts of the district, skeletal number of political scuffles were reported among different parties though police handled the situation sternly. UNI
