Jalna, Maharashtra, Mar 10: A 28-year-old debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Davargaon Devi village in Jafrabad Taluka in the district on Friday.
According to police, the deceased, Vikas Dethe, had having five acre land at Borwadi Shivar.
He was under distress and fed up due to his inability to repay the loan amount of Rs three lakh from the banks which allegedly had been issuing notice to him.
This year due to the pink bollworm, cotton crop was damaged resulting in inadequate production.
A case of sudden death had been registered in this regard, police added.
It may noted that till date more than 155 farmers have committed suicides in the eight district of Marathawada region since January 1 onwards. UNI
