GANDERBAL, MARCH 20: J&K State
Commission for women organized one-day legal awareness Program (LAP) at
District Office Ganderbal in association with National Commissioner for Women,
New Delhi.
The objectives of the programme was
to sensitizing the women in general and female students particularly about
various women-centric legislations and women-friendly initiatives of the
Government and also aware them about the mandate and functions of the J&K
State Commission for women.
Chairperson of State Women’s
Commission, Nayeema Ahmed Mehjoor was the chief guest on the occasion.
Additional District Development
Commissioner, Ganderbal, Nazir Ahmad Baba, Resource person speakers, Advocate,
Mohammad Altaf Khan, and Assistant Professor, University of Kashmir, Shazia
Malik participated in the programme. Besides, District Social Welfare Officer
Ganderbal, District Programme Officer, ICDS, District Officers and a mammoth
gathering of School and College students also attended the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the
Chairperson, Nayeema Mehjoor said that Commission has the mandate to monitor
all matters relating to constitutional and legal safeguard provided for women.
She stressed the need to uphold the honour and dignity of women. She said that
such programmes are aimed at spreading awakening upon the participants about
various laws constituted for the safety of women. She also said that commission
will continue to uphold such programmes in future.
The resource persons/speakers threw
light on the issues faced by the women at various levels. They pitched for
equal rights for women in all walks of life and called for a change in social
mindset.
The programme concluded with an interactive session in
which the participants evinced a lot of interest and raised many questions
regarding various gender issues as well as the role of Commission.
