New Delhi, Mar 23: Vice-President of Zimbabwe General (Retd) Constantino Chiwenga, as a special envoy of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, called on President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhawan here on Friday.
Welcoming Dr Chiwenga to India, the President said India and Zimbabwe enjoyed warm and special ties. With the change in the regime in Zimbabwe, India desired to continue friendly relations and further intensify engagement.
Mr Kovind said that India’s approach to its partnership with Africa was consultative and participatory. It was driven by the aim of empowerment, capacity building, human resource development, access to the Indian market and support for Indian investments in Africa.
He, however, pointed out that the bilateral trade between the two countries at USD 170 million was way before potential.
``We need to work together to strengthen our trade and economic relations,’’ he said, adding that India will be happy to be part of Zimbabwe’s effort to re-engage with the international community. UNI
