Srinagar, Apr 17: Security forces on Tuesday burst teargas shells to disperse students of Degree College Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, protesting against rape and brutal murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua in Jammu region.
Scores of students of Degree College Sopore, which opened on Tuesday morning after remaining closed for about a week for security reasons, hit the streets outside the institutions, demanding death penalty for the culprits in the case.
Shouting slogans in favour of the rape and murder victim, the protesting students tried to take out a protest march. However, security forces deployed in the area stopped students from moving ahead. As the protestors didn’t back down, security forces burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators, who later resorted to stone pelting.
The clashes were still going on when the reports last came in.
Eight accused, arrested in the case, were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Kathua on Monday. UNI
