JAMMU, July 28: Anna Hazare Anti-Corruption Movement on Saturday exhorted upon the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to stray away from the growing drug menace and to channelise their energies towards nation building.
Activists of J&K unit Anna Hazare Anti-Corruption Movement led by Tarun Uppal, National Core Committee member of the Movement, participated in the anti-drugs rally organised by Mother Helpage (NGO) at Jagti, an outskirts of Jammu. Students of various schools carrying placards giving message “Say No to Drugs” and inhabitants of the area were also participated in the rally.
Pertinent to mention here that two youths of Jagti area were died due to drug.
Addressing the participants, Taun Uppal said that the rally was taken out with a view to create awareness on the disastrous effect of intoxication from drugs on individual and society’s health.
 “Through this rally, we want to send strong message to the unscrupulous elements who involved in this heinous crime of drugs smuggling in the State to stop exploiting our youth,” Uppal said, adding that it’s the responsibility of parents also to spend some time with their wards so that they do not indulge in the drug trade.
Uppal appealed to the officials of Narcotics Control Bureau and Police Department to take strict actions against the drug peddlers operating in the State and booked them under the Public Safety Act.
“The drug trade is going on well under the nose of authorities at the helm of affairs. If concrete steps are not taken on time, the day is not far when Jammu will also become a drug capital”, Uppal asserted.
Tarun Uppal appealed to the youth to shun the path of drugs and should focus on their studies and channelize their energies towards nation building. He emphasized that the cooperation of every section of the society is must to liberate younger generation from the rid of drug addiction.
Prominent among those who were present in the rally include Sunil Pandita, Bhushan Parimoo, Ashok Bhat, Sanjay Dhar, Satish Bhat, Ravinder Pandita, P.L Thusoo and others.
