SRINAGAR, MAY 30: Minister of State for Forest,
Environment, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Cooperative and Fisheries, Mir
Zahoor Ahmad, today underscored the need for making all existing Cooperative
Business units and Milk plants profitable and commercially viable. He also
called for revival of poultry through cooperatives in the State of Jammu and
Kashmir.
Chairing a meeting with the Officers of Cooperative Department, Jammu
Kashmir Milk Plant Cooperative Limited (JKMPCL) and stakeholders of Poultry
units, the Minister asked the concerned to achieve the set targets by working
with utmost dedication and honesty.
The Minister was apprised that JKMPCL with a membership base of over 13000
milk producers associated with this organization. It caters to more than 400
village dairy co-operative societies. It was said that during the last 11 years of its
operations, turnover of JKMPCL has grown at an impressive manner.
Appreciating JKMPCL for its successful operation, organization, the
Minister directed them for imparting scientific and modern methods of dairy
enhancement to the Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the State so that their
livelihood will be enhanced with the use of new technological interventions.
The Minister also called for wide publicity of the Cooperative
activities so that maximum awareness is generated among the beneficiaries. He
asked the concerned that it is high time to ensure early regeneration of
poultry through Cooperatives in the State. He asked them that every possible
help would be provided by the Government in this regard.
Mir Zahoor stressed on strengthening the Village Dairy and Poultry
Co-operative Societies which he said will help to improve the socio-economic
conditions of the people.
Secretary, Cooperative Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Chief Executive Officer,
JKMPCL, Mayank Tiwari and representatives of Poultry Units were present in the
meeting.
