BUDGAM, MAY 17: On the
instructions of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, the District Development
Commissioner Budgam, accompanied by SE Hydraulics and Xen Flood Control
Division Narabal today inspected work on flood channel in the district and
reviewed its dredging, axing of trees, and evacuation of encroached land on
both sides of the flood spill channel.
It was said that an amount of Rs 399 crore stands sanctioned and work
on the project has been started at different spots on the flood channel.
During the inspection, the DDC was informed that 25000 trees were axed
on both sides of the flood spill channel, besides six hundred Kanals of
encroached land was also retrieved.
The DDC was also apprised that presently 12 excavators are on the job,
besides large contingent of manpower has also been engaged to
accelerate the work.
It was given out that with the completion of this project the flood
channel will have the carrying capacity of 25000 cusecs of water at the entry
point at Padshahi Bagh and can discharge 39000 cusecs at the exit point at
Walur.
During the tour, the DDC was informed that with the completion of phase
first, there shall be a smooth discharge of 3100 cusecs at the off take level
and a discharge of 22700 cusecs at exit point against present catering off 4000
cusecs at off take level and 20500 at exit point.
It was said that presently an amount of Rs. 52 crore have been envisaged
for various works under execution from Bemina to Hokkersar.
Moreover, one bridge under execution of JKPCC would come up on the
channel at Shareefabad which is likely to be completed in one
year at the project cost of Rs. 20 crore.
The DDC directed the concerned authorities to expedite the work on war
footing and deploy more excavators and other required machinery immediately on
the channel stretch and submit work report on daily basis.
