SRINAGAR, MAY 26: Governor N.N. Vohra and Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady,
felicitated Ms. Firdous Ansari, Senior Staff Nurse, Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of
Medical Sciences, Soura, for receiving the Florence Nightingale Award (2017)
from the President of India, at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Sh. Bali Bhagat, Minister for Health and Medical Education; Sh. Abid
Hussain Ansari, MLA Zadibal; Sh. Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to the
Governor; Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Secretary Health and Medical Education; Prof. A.G.
Ahangar, Director SKIMS; Dr. M.S. Khuroo, former HoD, Gastro, SKIMS; Dr.
Khursheed Iqbal, former HoD, Cardiology, SKIMS; Ms. Mehmooda, Principal College
of Nursing; Ms. Shameema Gamgeen, Incharge Nursing, SKIMS; doctors, nursing
staff of SKIMS and friends and family members of Ms. Ansari were present on the
occasion.
It may be recalled that the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee,
had recently conferred the Florence Nightingale Award to 35 nurses from across
the country on the occasion of International Nurses Day, at the Rashrapati
Bhavan.
Congratulating Ms. Ansari for her outstanding achievement the Governor
lauded her professionalism, dedication and devotion in providing nursing care
to a large number of patients over the years since she joined SKIMS. He added
that Ms. Ansari had made all of us in the State proud with her achievement and
congratulated Director SKIMS and staff of the Institute for always rising to
the occasion to provide the best medical care in the State.
Governor
stressed the need for giving due recognition to doctors, teachers, paramedics,
nurses, government employees and others who serve the State with efficiency and
diligence for the betterment of the society. Referring to the outstanding work
done in the field of water borne and stomach diseases by Dr. M.S. Khuroo,
former HoD of Gastroenterology in SKIMS, Governor said that we feel proud to
have such dedicated doctors who are relentless in their service to mankind.
Speaking at the function Sh. Bali Bhagat, Health Minister stated that
the award to Ms. Ansari is an achievement for the entire State. He said that
the medical institutions in J&K have highly dedicated medical staff who are
always ready to deal with all medical emergencies.

felicitated Ms. Ansari by presenting her a shawl on the occasion.
Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Secretary Health and Medical Education, presented the
Welcome Address while Prof. A.G. Ahangar, Director SKIMS gave the Vote of
Thanks.
