SRINAGAR, JUNE 20: Advisor to Chief Minister, Prof Amitabh
Mattoo, today chaired the first meeting of Working Group constituted to workout
modalities for operationalization of Knowledge Initiative in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was co-chaired by Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf
Bukhari.
The meeting was attended by Financial Commissioner (Coordination)/
Resident Commission, J&K Government, New Delhi K B Aggarwal and Principal
Secretary to the Chief Minister, Rohit Kansal, Commissioner Secretary Higher
Education, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon and other concerned.
During the meeting, various areas of working including Proposed
Chapters, Timeline, Proposed Workshops, Report Work, Budget and other related
issues of the Working Group were discussed.
Prof Mattoo said the Group holds much significance as its primary aim
is to develop Human Resources in the State, generate excellence in Research and
Innovation in Higher Education and create world-class institutions and spaces
for excellence.
Speaking on the occasion, Bukhari directed the group members to
work together as a team to achieve the set goals for the betterment of
educational system in the State.
While praising the capabilities based on academic background and
experience of members of the Group, the Minister said that he is optimistic
that the Group will play a pivotal role in the development of the education
sector in the State by introducing modern techniques and practices in teaching
and learning.
The Minister observed that there is a need to hand hold the Cluster
Universities of State to make them the best education centers.
Pertinently, the Working Group was constituted on June 9 with the
purpose to prepare a Vision Document for interventions in skills, teaching,
learning, research, and innovation that will be drawn from global best
practices and traditional norms.
The Working Group would also prepare a blueprint for Information
Communication Technology initiative that can harness the human resources talent
in the State besides preparing a plan and guideline for the creation of
knowledge cluster that can become a hub of state of the art technology,
research and innovation through the participation of major stakeholders.
