Dir Agriculture for bringing more Kupwara areas under double cropping

          KUPWARA, JUNE 03: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Altaf Aijaz Andrabi, on Saturday chaired a meeting of agriculture officers in Kupwara and stressed on bringing more areas of the district under double cropping to increase yield and improve economic conditions of farmers.

          Chief Agriculture Officer Kupwara, District Officers, Sub-divisional Officers, Agriculture Extension officers and JAEO’s and Village Agricultural Extension Assistants attended the meeting.

          The Director asked the officers to make concerted efforts to increase the cropping intensity in the district and emphasized on bringing more and more area under double cropping.

          He also reviewed sub-division wise working and schemes of the district and had interactive session with the field functionaries of the department. He put emphasis on VAEA’s to reach out to farmers and work professionally so that the visible impact of transfer of technology is noticed in the fields.

          The Director also enquired about the impact of awareness programmes held during the current cropping season. He instructed for prophylactic measures to be taken for Mushkbudji trials laid in Zachaldara zone as the variety is highly susceptible to rice blast.

          He insisted for exploring the full potential in apiculture sector wherein he was informed that 460 colonies are maintained in the district for the current year and very good yield in expected for the session.

          He was further informed that geo-tagging of each activity under RKVY will be completed within a couple of days for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). He instructed for cent percent achievement of KCC.

          Earlier, CAO Kupwara briefed the meeting about various schemes and profile of Kupwara District and said that the district that 180.10 hectares of area has been brought under seed village programme. He said that in Hachimarg village as many as 400 quintals of tomato are produced and revenue of more than 10 lakh is generated annually.

          The Director Agriculture directed the concerned for adapting the village and providing technological input to farmers, besides issuing them green houses and sprayers to raise their economic standards.
