DC calls for maximum coverage

JUNE 15: Deputy Commissioner
Kathua Ramesh Kumar today reviewed preparations for month long special voter
enrollment drive starting from July 1 here at a joint meeting of
officers and political representatives.
The enrolment drive is being carried out to
register left out electors with special focus on first time electors in
the age group of 18-21 years with qualifying date as 1-1-2017.
The meeting discussed in detail the modalities to be adopted to make the drive
a success. It was stated that the endeavour of Election Commission of India
(ECI) has been for maximum registration of eligible electors and preparation of
electoral rolls free from all errors, with the theme ” No voters to be left
behind” who are in 18-19 years age group.
The DC, who is also District Election Officer, directed that Booth Level
Officer (BLOs) shall visit door to door to register every eligible voter.
Special camps would also be held from July 8-22 wherein BLOs and BLAs
will remain present at their respective polling stations to respond to the
queries of registered voters , he added.
He said that in order to make the camp successful, the services of other
departments will also be utilised to educate youths by organising different
activities like Quiz, painting, rangoli, easy writing and debate
competitions, organising marathons, staging plays, etc under Systematic
Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP).
Beside registration of new voters, deletion of voters, migration of voters,
registration of persons with disabilities (PwDs) would also be done during
month long camp, DEO Kathua said.
The DEO further informed that during the Special Drive the names of dead
electors would also be deleted from the electoral rolls for which the data
would be collected from the govt records or recording the statement of at
least two persons residing in the same locality.
The DEO also said that special camps, for which dates would be announced
separately, would be organized in Government and Private educational
institutions including Colleges, Polytechnic Colleges, ITI, B.Ed and Nursing
Colleges to register eligible electors.
Seeking cooperation from registered Political Parties to make the drive a success,
the District Election Officer appealed them to appoint Booth Level agents
(BLAs) for all polling stations to assist the Booth Level Officers during the
Special Drive.
Among others ERO’S, AERO’s, BLO’s and representatives of political parties
were present in the meeting.
