SRINAGAR, JUNE 12: The Minister for Animal
Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli, today called for
speedy compensation to nomads (Gujjar/Bakerwal) for loss of livestock in
devastating September 2014 floods.
The Minister said that he has already taken up the issue of compensation
with Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti. He expressed gratitude to the Chief
Minister for asking the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to submit a report on
the issue at the earliest.
Meanwhile, various deputations of nomads from different places of Jammu
region including Kathua, Ramban, Doda, Rajouri Poonch and Kishtwar met the
Minister and pressed for immediate compensation.
Kohli assured the deputations that the Government do whatever possible
so that they are provided due compensation. He reiterated the commitment of the
coalition Government to provide succor to every community of State. He further
said that Government has initiated various programmes to empower the people
living in far-off places particularly nomad tribes.
He said that various measures have been taken to provide medicines and
free consultation by veterinarians across different animal health centers for
better health of the livestock.
