SRINAGAR, JUNE 6: Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said that introduction of music and promotion of cultural activities in schools and colleges can bring about a positive change in society.
Speaking at a musical event organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Altaf Bukhari said that devotional music has always played an inherent part in “religio-cultural” scenario of Kashmir valley.
While talking about cultural diversity and traditions the Minister said that Kashmir is a land of sufis, mystics and saints who always stressed on need for maintaining peace and communal harmony. The mystics and sufis used to use devotional music like qawali, and sufiyana music as an instrument to propagate their religious message, and the same if introduced into academic institutions can bring peace in our society.
Emphasizing upon the need to inculcate music and cultural activities in schools and colleges, the Minister remarked that Kashmir has produced excellent writers and singers and together they should organise more such programs.
He further said that Kashmiri people should go outside state to demonstrate their talent so that people would know about Kashmir’s peaceful history.
The huge audience which attended this event was enthralled by the performance of famous Nizami Bandhu from Delhi.
Secretary Academy, Secretary Culture, Waheed Jeelani, Gulzar Ganai, Raashid Jehangir, along with students, research scholars and members of Cultural Academy were also present in the function.
The two-day event will include Qawaali competition for students and the winner will be awarded with prize money of Rs 1lakh.
