SRINAGAR, JUNE 08: Minister for
Public Works, Naeem Akhtar, today visited Batamaloo constituency to take stock
of various developmental projects there during which he set a deadline of one
year for the completion of 500 bedded Maternity and Pediatric hospital at
Bemina.
While inspecting pace of work on
various developmental works in the constituency, the Minister stressed on the
need to stick to deadlines so that all these projects are completed within the
set timeline and their benefits percolates to the grass root level.
He was briefed that bottlenecks
hindering work at the Bemina hospital have been cleared and work will resume
within a week’s time.
The Minister said that the project is of vital significance as it will cater to
a large section of the society and also decrease the work load on major
hospitals like Lal Ded.
He directed the officials of
executing agencies to adopt the best practice in hospital constructions from
around the world while completing the project. He also asked the officials to
explore a peculiar facade for the building, that will be beautiful and in tune
with architecture and environment of Kashmir.
The Minister also inspected the
under construction bridges at Shalteng, Mallroo, Takanwari and Sharifabad. He
directed the officials to complete all the bridges within a span of one year so
that the interconnectivity across the Jhelum and Flood Spill channel is
enhanced. He also issued directions for simultaneous development of approach
roads of these bridges. He further asked the officials to expedite the cutting
of trees from the flood channel and for taking all steps for better flood
management.
Later, Akhtar visited the Trauma
Centre Lawaypora where he was briefed that the work will be resumed shortly and
first two floors of the hospital will be completed at the earliest.
MLA Batamallo Noor Mohammed Sheikh,
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Chief Engineer PDD, MD JKPCC and other officials
accompanied the Minister during the visit.
