SRINAGAR, JUNE 14: Coordinator Chief Minister's Grievance
Cell, Tassaduq Hussain Mufti, today called for making concerted efforts to
combat pollution and putting in place effective mechanism for scientific
disposal of waste in famed ski resort of Gulmarg.
The Coordinator CM’s Grievance cell stated this at a
meeting with officers to take stock of the pollution control and disposal of
waste in the tourist resort.
During the meeting, Mufti asked officials about the time frame during
which waste disposal plant will be constructed at Gulmarg. To make the
process speedy, he asked the officers to expedite process of getting necessary
clearances so that work on the plant can be built on time.
The Coordinator was apprised about various steps taken for
the scientific disposal of various types of garbage at the Gulmarg. He was
briefed that for the proposed plant one kanal of land is presently under consideration.
It was said that the plant would need further expansion in future to meet the
requirements.
On the occasion, the Coordinator highlighted the hazards of rising
pollution levels and its ill effects on the environment and human lives. He said
that collective measures are needed to safeguard and tackle the situation at
various levels.
He impressed the officials to devise a mechanism so that waste
collected at the plant is recycled at the site only thus helping in reducing
energy usage and air pollution.
The meeting also discussed many related issues like increase in
pollution levels by cement factories, brick kilns and stone crushers.
The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Officer Gulmarg Development
Authority Chief Conservator Forest, Kashmir, Director Environment and Ecology,
Regional Director Pollution Control Board, Deputy Secretary CM's Grievance Cell
and other concerned.
