ANANTNAG, JUNE
08: Workshop on
implementation of J&K Right Information Act organized by J&K, State
Information Commission in collaboration with district administration was today
held at Dak Bungalow, Anantnag.
The workshop
was attended by Chief Information Commissioner, J&K, Khursheed Ahmad Ganie,
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, SSP Anantnag, all PIOs, APIOs, Civil Society
Members, Prominent citizens and Media personalities of the district.
The Chief
Information Commissioner, J&K hailed the efforts made by PIOs and APIOs of
the district administration for implementing RTI Act in letter and spirit in
the district. He also informed that the Information Commission, J&K has
received 3000 applications during the year 2016-2017.
He said the Right to
Information is a fundamental human right. He said Under J&K RTI Act, the
public has right to inspect record or works, right to get certified copies,
right to get samples or models and right to get information in electronic form
from government departments.
During the interaction with the
officers, civil society members and media personalities, the commissioner said
that under section 5 RTI, Act 2009, all PIOs, APIOs have to provide any kind of
information as sought from the public for ensuring good governance transparency
in the government setup. He also informed that 86% world population is covered
by RTI Act.
Commissioner stressed for organizing
workshops in the remote areas to aware the people about the RTI Act.
On the occasion Deputy Commissioner
Anantnag informed the workshop about the implementation of RTI Act and disposal
status of applications received under the Act in the district. He stated that
district administration has hosted most of the important information on its
official website www.anantnag.nic.in.
The members
from civil society & media personalities demanded for making the act more
effective and to aware the common people about the different clause of the Act.
