Lucknow, Jul 29 : After operation Bihar and Gujarat, the BJP leadership has now made its inroads in Uttar Pradesh when two sitting Samajwadi Party and one of the Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) MLCs, resigned from the state Legislative Council just when BJP president Amit Shah reached the state capital today. Two SP MLCs Bhukkal Nawab and Yashwant Singh along with BSP member Thakur Jaiveer Singh have resigned from the membership of the Legislative Council, confirmed Council Speaker Ramesh Yadav here. All the three members resigned just when Mr Shah landed at the Lucknow airport at around 1000 hours this morning. According to sources, the BJP needed vacancies in the Legislative Council for the entry of its five ministers, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his two deputies Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma along with Swantra Deo Singh and Mohsin Raza, by September 18 next. Now with these resignations, the total vacancy in the council will go up to four with one seat being already vacant. However, there are reports that another senior SP MLC Madhukar Jaitley may also resign. There is also a report that both Bukkal Nawab, Yashwant Singh and Thakur Jaiveer Singh could join the BJP in the presence of Mr Shah later in the day. The tenure of both the SP MLCs is up to July 6, 2022 but of the BSP MLCs is May 5, 2018. The sudden resignation spree in the SP and BSP comes just days after BJP's operation in Bihar to form the government with JD(U) and the resignation of Congress MLAs in Gujarat.
