Calls for
urgent measures to refurbishing facilities
SRINAGAR,
JULY 25: Coordinator CM's Grievance
Cell, Tassaduq Mufti has called for upgradation of facilities at the Bakshi
Stadium, Srinagar for promotion of sports activities.
Taking
cognizance of recurrent complaints from the sportspersons regarding poor
facilities at the Bakshi Stadium, Tassaduq Mufti has asked the Sports
Department to refurbish the stadium by constructing change rooms and modern
bathrooms. He also called for installing floodlights, putting in place multiple
entry/exit points, rebuilding modern pavilion, setting up food courts and other
state of the art facilities there at the Bakshi stadium.
"The
Bakshi stadium with its rich heritage, since 1960 has been a centre of sporting
activities hosted by a range of sports bodies throughout the year. However the
athletes have complained of several shortcomings like lack of proper drinking
water facilities, unhygienic toilets, overflowing sewage because of poor
drainage resulting in stench, absence of proper and adequate changing room
facilities and poor infrastructure in terms of roads, ground and Stadium
stands," Tassaduq said in a communication addressed to the Sports
Department.
He said
the lack of proper changing rooms for girls and bad condition of bathrooms
leads to less participation of budding female athletes in sports events.
"In order to ensure round the year sporting activities and encourage
greater participation in sporting events, the highlighted grievances need to be
taken up on priority and the sports infrastructure at Bakshi stadium needs to
be revitalized/rebuilt with floodlights, multiple entry/exit points, modern
pavilion, food Courts and state of art facilities," the communication said
adding in the past few years, a lot has been done in building of vital sports
infrastructure across the state, "but a lot still needs to be done in this
regard."
