Lauds role of the College in imparting quality education |
SRINAGAR, JULY 6: Minister for Education, Syed
Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, today attended the Convocation of SSM College of
Engineering and Technology, Parihaspora and stressed on the need of imparting
quality education to students for their academic excellence.
The Minister, who was the chief guest on the Convocation Day, said that
the SSM College has provided quality education to the students of State for the
last few decades and assured full support to the college authorities in
augmenting its infrastructural requirements.
Congratulating the students on completion of their degree courses,
Bukhari said that Convocation Day is the proudest day in a students’ life. “As you
(students) have completed your courses, now your actions should speak louder
that will make this institution proud and the State as well,” he told
students while appealing them to make a positive contribution towards the
progress of the society.
He also said that a formal order for launch of the M.Tech programme at
the College will be issued soon.
On the
occasion, Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon,
said that SSM College has come up to its present position despite many odds and
has become a success story in the education sector of the state.
He said that under the dynamic leadership of Altaf Bukhari, the
Department has successfully implemented Prime Minister’s Special
Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) as around 25,000 students in the State have
registered themselves this year to avail scholarship.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), Khurshid
Ahmad Ganai congratulated students and advised them about their future
endeavors.
He also discussed with them various courses and professions the students
can further opt. “Many among you should prefer IAS and other civil Service Exams as there
is the need of technical administrators too in the field,” Ganai
said.
Later, Minister for Education distributed certificates among students
who completed their degree courses in different branches of Engineering, MCA,
MBA and BBA.
On the occasion, Vice Chancellors IUST, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqi, Vice
Chancellor Cluster University (Srinagar), Prof. Sheikh Javid Ahmed; Director
Colleges (J&K), G M Tibet Bakal; Former Chairman PSC, Mohammad Shafi Pandit;
and faculty members of SSM College and Education Department were present.
