Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee led by senior Congress leader Ajay Maken today staged a massive protest against the Goods and Services Tax at Jantar Mantar here. Mr Maken said the way in which the government implemented GST has badly hit the traders as well as the commoners. Senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler was also present in the protest.


New Delhi, Jul 18: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee led by senior Congress leader Ajay Maken today staged a massive protest against the Goods and Services Tax at Jantar Mantar here. Mr Maken said the way in which the government implemented GST has badly hit the traders as well as the commoners. Senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler was also present in the protest. The protest witnessed massive participation from traders of Delhi who expressed their dissatisfaction and were said to be 'fed up' with the GST. The traders had approached Mr Maken earlier, regarding problems faced by them relating to GST. The protest stressed upon the issues such as higher limit of GST which was 28 per cent as compared to the 14 per cent promised by the governing party before coming to power. The DPCC and the traders also opposed the forced implementation of the tax regime upon them without being given sufficient time for preparation. Earlier, Mr Maken, in a meeting held on July 11, has announced regarding the protest saying, ''Congress will gherao the Parliament House on July 18 to protest against the Goods and Services Tax.''
