Srinagar, Jul 24 :  The Army today ordered a Court of Inquiry (CoI) against its personnel for allegedly thrashing six policemen, including an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), in Ganderbal district, a top police officer said. Six policemen, including an ASI, were allegedly thrashed by Army soldiers, who were returning from Amarnath holy cave shrine in civvies, after they were stopped at Gund check-post in Ganderbal on July 21. “The Army immediately ordered a CoI into the incident and initiated investigation,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muneer Ahmad Khan told a press conference here. He said Director General of Police S P Vaid had lodged a very strong protest with the 15 Corps commander Lt Gen J S Sandhu, who responded quickly and ordered a CoI. Army brigade commander concerned, three Sector, the CO, were also immediately sent to the Gund police station by Lt Gen Sandhu. All the things have been done, whether it was taking cognisance by the police or the action by the Army. However, Defence ministry spokesperson was not available to confirm the CoI. Meanwhile, Lt Gen Sandhu, taking to Twitter, said, “Efforts to create divide between Army & Police by anti- nationals won’t work. We’re together always working as brothers in arms.” Agencies
