SRINAGAR, JULY 31:- A Workshop on Hygiene & Sanitation was organized by J&K State Social Welfare Board for educating the general public through NGOs. The workshop held discussions on waterborne diseases which are spread especially during rainy season in the state, especially in Kashmir Valley.
A Health Advisory presentation was given by Epidemiologist Kashmir, Dr. Rehana Kousar and State Surveillance Officer, Hygiene and Sanitation, Dr S M Qadri to cretae awareness about prevention of acute diseases like Hepatitis  A,B,C,D & E, Alcoholic Hepatitis and Non-Alcoholic Hepatitis and other water borne and associated diseases like malaria, dengue, typhoid, dysentery, diarrhea, cholera, typhoid fever.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson, J&K State Social Welfare Board, Dr. (Prof) Nirmal Gupta said that clean & safe drinking water is one of the necessity of the general masses. She highlighted the Swash Bharat Mission launched by the Prime Minister and appealed to the general masses through NGOs to take keen interest and maximum participation in this programme.
Highlighted the role of the society and viral infection spread from the water born diseases in the general public, Dr. Rehana Kousar said that after during the rainy season, garbage, animal waste, human waste gets mixed with water and entered into the water resources which further polluted drinking water supply thus the main cause the water diseases.
Dr. Qadri also stressed for maintenance of proper personal hygiene during especially patient contact, aseptic actions, contact with body fluids etc. He educated people about importance of proper covering of water reservoirs, cleanliness in and around the water resources, proper sanitation, chlorination, ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) preparation besides made them aware to avoid prolonged contact with dirty water.

The workshop was attended by Secretary, J&K State Social Welfare Board, Shahid Mahmood Dar, Administrative Officer, Vijay Tickoo, valley based NGOs and senior officers of the Board.
