New Delhi, Aug 12: Holding Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath squarely responsible for the deaths of 60 children in the last five days in a Gorakhpur hospital due to lack of oxygen, the Congress today demanded that he step down owing moral responsibility for the incident. The party also demanded the resignation of the UP Health Minister over the incident. Reacting to the incident, AICC spokesperson Manish Tewari said,'Considering that Yogi Adityanath is both MP from Gorakhpur as well as the Chief Minister of the state, he should take moral responsibility and step down. So should his Health Minister.' Reacting to the incident, Congress leader Priya Dutt said,'Oxygen cut kills 30 kids in UP. I am angry and disgusted with the apathy of the government towards human life.' Congress President Sonia Gandhi had last night expressed deep shock at the tragic death of the 30 ailing children in BRD Hospital, Gorakhpur in the past two days due to alleged shortage of oxygen. Pained beyond words by this humongous tragedy, Ms Gandhi said her heart goes out to the families of the innocent children who fell prey to gross negligence and incorrigible misconduct on the part of the authorities. Ms Gandhi urged the Uttar Pradesh Government to take immediate cognisance of the crime and culprits and said the persons responsible for this neglect be brought to book. She called upon the Pradesh Congress and Congress workers to provide relief to the families of the victims. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also expressed shock over the incident. 'Deeply pained. My thoughts are with the families of the victims. BJP government is responsible and should punish the negligent,who caused this tragedy,' Mr Gandhi said. A Congress delegation, led by AICC generals secretary for Uttar Pradesh and consisting of UP Congress chief Raj Babbar and AICC spoeksperson R P N Singh, is on a visit to Gorakhpur to meet the families of the victims.
