Puducherry, Aug 5: Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee today held a demonstration in front of the Head Post Office here to condemn the attack on Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat yesterday. Speaking on the occasion, PCC president and PWD Minister A Namasivayam demanded that the BJP government in Gujarat which failed to provide protection to a National leader should resign. He charged that the BJP activists continue to indulge in violence and said that farmers are on an agitation in New Delhi for about 100 days and the BJP government have no intention to resolve their problems. He said the BJP is trying to create violence throughout the country to derive political mileage from it.Their dreams will never be fulfilled, he said, claiming that Mr Gandhi will become the Prime Minister after 2019 election. Unable to digest this, the BJP had unleashed an attack on him, he charged. Mr Namasivayam said during the Congress rule at the Centre, then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had waived agricultural loan to the tune of Rs 70,000 crore. However,the Puducherry Lt.Governor had forwarded the file pertaining to the waiver of Rs 22 crore agricultural loan here to the Union government. Farmers are suffering because of this, he added. This action of the Lt.Governor need to be condemned, he said. He said no one could destroy the 135 year old Congress Party. Ministers--Shajahan and Kandasamy, legislators and Congress party functionaries among others participated in the agitation. Meanwhile, police arrested over 100 party youth volunteers when they organized a demonstration in front of the Gandhi statue on the Goubert Avenue to condemn the attack on Mr Gandhi. The youth congress volunteers covered their mouth with a black cloth and held the demonstration and police arrested them on charges that their agitation was not on a peaceful note.
