SRINAGAR,
AUGUST 07: Continuing with its efforts to restore the grandeur and
pristine glory of the Dal Lake, Lakes & Waterways Development Authority
(LAWDA) today launched a massive de-weeding drive to remove weeds and lily
patches in the lake.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan flagged off the massive drive
from Oberoi Ghat at Dal Lake. Vice Chairman LAWDA, Engineers of LAWDA and
other concerned were present on the occasion.
Highlighting the significance of de-weeding of Dal Lake, the Divisional
Commissioner said the process will help in restoring the pristine glory of the
lake which is the top priority of the Government.
He further said Dal Lake is our heritage and preserving its glory is our duty.
He called for coordinated efforts by all the stake holders in this regard which
he said would intern help in promoting tourism industry of the Valley.
On the
occasion, VC JKLAWDA said that for the de-weeding process as many as 200
labourers, 100 boats and mechanical machines have been put in work so far, and
more workforce would be added to expedite the process.
