Aug 25: GJM youth wing president Palden Bhutia, suspected having links
with the Maoists in Nepal and some insurgent groups of North Eastern parts of
India, was arrested from Pedong last night. Bhutia, party's youth wing
president of Pedong region, was allegedly involved for setting afire the Pedong
police phari last month. Now police were probing his links with the Moaists in
Nepal and some insurgent groups of the North Eastern region, ADG (Law and
Order) Siddhinath Gupta said here today. Earlier, six youth were arrested for
Pedong police phari burning case. Police believed that Maoists from Nepal had
come in Kalimpong area and imparted guerrilla training to some of the youth in
recent times. Police today took the arrested GJM leader for production in court
and sought their custody with a plea that the youth needed to be quizzed for
unlawful activity. However, the GJM leadership denied any link with either
Maoists in Nepal or insurgent groups of India. GJM leaders Binay Tamang and
Kalyan Dewan stated that some vested interested elements have been detonating
explosions to malign them and diverting the peaceful statehood agitation. UNI
