Puducherry, Aug 4 : Puducherry Lt Governor today said it is ‘unfortunate' that the Speaker is not allotting seats for the nominated members of the Puducherry Assembly. Talking to mediapersons after flagging off an ocean sailing expedition by the National Cadets Corps, Dr Bedi said the Union Government had nominated three members to the territorial Assembly as per the law and it is ‘unfortunate’ that the speaker is not allotting seats for them in the house. 'The Speaker should have averted this,' she said, adding that an amicable settlement to the issue should be found. Ms Bedi said the people need much awareness on keeping Puducherry clean, adding that plastic and other wastes are being thrown into the streets. This waste blocks drainage leading to health hazards, she said and added that crores of people's money is being wasted to clean this menace. If the people keep the city clean, then the money could be used for the education of children. She said she is inspecting rural schools here and added that all steps would be taken to provide quality education to the students. UNI
