SRINAGAR, AUGUST 28: The Government today constituted an
official panel to formulate a comprehensive proposal for revamping the
Information Department in light of the fast-changing media scenario.
To be headed by the Administrative Secretary, Information Department,
the five-member Committee shall include Director Information, Joint Director
Information (Hqrs), Joint Director Information Jammu and Joint Director
Information, Kashmir as Members. The Committee shall submit its report within 15
days.
The revamping of DIPR shall include streamlining and strengthening the
existing systems, besides adopting latest technologies to meet the growing
demands of the information dissemination. The focus of the Committee shall be
on strengthening the PR, audio visual and digital media wings in the Department
to ensure prompt and efficient information dissemination.
The Committee will also suggest measures for creation of dedicated
specialized wings including IT section, removal of stagnation and creation of
better and speedy career progression opportunities for the existing DIPR
employees at various levels.
The Committee has been constituted on the initiative of Minister for
Information, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali who is keen to bring up the Department of
Information & Public Relations (DIPR) as a strong communications platform
with professional human resource and state-of-the-art infrastructure to face
the challenges faced in view of the fast transformation taking place on the
media scene.
Pertinently, the Minister has already ordered creation of a separate
independent mechanism for advertisement distribution to the print media in the
offices of the provincial Joint Directors of Information so that the
Directorate of Information can effectively channelize its resources and
energies on information dissemination.
The DIPR has, on the initiative of the Information Minister, also
successfully and professionally started in-house editing and compilation of the
departmental programme 'Aks-e-Parwaaz' which is being telecast on DD Kashmir 6
days a week.
DIPR has, of late, taken various initiatives to strengthen the Department
by way of infrastructure and bring in skilled manpower at various levels to
give a professional touch to the information dissemination through print,
electronic and new media.
