New
Delhi, Aug 31: The Supreme Court today allowed a Pune-based 25-week-old
pregnant woman to abort her foetus keeping in view the fact that her baby in
the womb was suffering from some abnormality. A two-judge bench of the apex
court, headed by Justice SA Bobde and also comprising Justice L Nageswar Rao,
allowed her plea to abort her fetus. The SC allowed to abort the fetus of the
25-week-old pregnant woman, keeping in view the fact that the foetus was having
some abnormalities. The SC said, "keeping in view the fact that there were
some serious abnormalities in the fetus of the petitioner, woman, we allow her
to abort the same." The woman, a native of Pune, had knocked the doors of
the apex court seeking to abort her fetus. The woman is 25 week old pregnant.
In another case pertaining to a 13-year-old girl, who was allegedly gangraped
and sought to abort her almost more than 29 weeks old fetus, the apex court
adjourned the case for Monday. As the medical report of her was not received by
the apex court, thereby it deferred the case for an hearing likely on Monday.
