
New Delhi, Aug 2 : The Supreme Court today upheld the conviction of former IAS officer Neera Yadav and sentenced her to two years of imprisonment for possessing disproportionate assets and involving in corruption. A two-judge bench headed by Justice Kurian Joseph and also comprising Justice R Banumathi upheld Yadav's conviction, but it however, reduced her jail sentence to two years. "We are upholding the Allahabad High Court order. But we are reducing the jail term to two years keeping in view the fact and circumstances of the case registered against her, " the bench said in its order. The Allahabad High Court had, in November 2012, sentenced her to three years in the corruption case. Neera Yadav, a 1971 batch IAS officer, became Uttar Pradesh's first woman chief secretary during the Samajwadi Party's regime in 2005. She opted for voluntary retirement during her last few years of her career as an IAS officer. Yadav was accused of corruption charges and also possessing disproportionate assets and allegedly involved in corruption. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was the prosecuting agency against Neera in the case. UNI
