New Delhi, Sep 7: In
an effort to continue its widespread crackdown against cross border funding
of terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir, the National
Investigation Agency today conducted raids for the second
consecutive day at eight places in the Kashmir valley and at one each place in
Delhi and Gurgaon.
In raids yesterday at 27 places in Srinagar and Delhi, NIA had seized Rs 2.20
crores.According to NIA, its mission to fight "terror funding" is right on course and ten places in Kashmir valley, Delhi and Gurugram are being raided today. NIA sources told that these raids are being carried out in places situated in North, South and Central Kashmir.
During this NIA drive, the residences and business establishments of those businessmen were searched who were charged with or suspected of 'terror funding' for militant activities. During the raids, objectionable documents related to hawala transactions, laptops, mobile phones and many electronic gadgets such as Hard discs besides cash of Rs 2.20 crores were recovered.
NIA says that raids have led to the recovery of some very important diaries, Lazor book containing the addresses of some high profile persons connected with hawala trade, bank accounts of foreign firms (especially Pakistan) engaged in illegal business and pass book of some banks accounts attached with Jammu and Kashmir.
Travel documents to UAE of some people visiting UAE have also been confiscated. The raids went on till the evening. The suspected are being interrogated for the "objectionable papers or documents" retrieved from their hide-outs.
Prior to these raids, the Investigation Agency had arrested the spokespersons of the two factions of the Hurriyat Conference Ayaz Akbar and advocate Shahidul Islam along with the son-in-law of its President Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani and many separatist leaders in "terrorist funding" case for militant activities.
Leaders of some other organisations were also taken into custody including Naeem Khan, Mahurujdeen Kalwaal, Peer Saifullah, Farookh Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Kratayat and Jahur Vathali.
Meanwhile, the separatist leaders are anguished over the NIA raids. Out of them, three heavyweight leaders have announced that they would produce themselves for arrest on Saturday in Delhi at NIA premises as a mark of protest.
