Chatterjee today again appeared before the CBI officials, the second successive
day to face fresh queries from the central investigating agency on his alleged
taking money from Narada news CEO Mathew Samuel in 2014 , which the journo
documented in a sting operation. Mr Chatterjee, who was grilled for about 7
hours in phases yesterday, was again summoned by the CBI to appear at the Nizam
Palace around 1100 hours today after the central agency probing the Narada
sting operations found the politician's answer unsatisfactory. Sources, having
knowledge in the investigation, said the minister, who is also the Mayor of
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) ,reportedly denied having known Mathew
Samuel and refused having taken any money from any unknown sources. The CBI
team here may also consult its Delhi office by video conferencing while the
grilling would continue on Mr Chatterjee's alleged involvement in the Narada
sting operation. The CBI also asked Mr Chatterjee to show his 2014-15 IT
returns file and some of his bank accounts books. Official sources also hinted
that the CBI may also call KMC Deputy Mayor Iqbal Ahmed at the Nizam Palace and
may quiz the two together. But so far Mr Iqbal Ahmed has not turned up yet.
Fifty-three-year-old Sovan Chatterjee on August 11 was also quizzed by another
central investigating agency - Enforcement Directorate - for over 8 hours. Mr
Chatterjee has been accused of taking Rs 4 lakh from the Narada CEO, which had
been documented during the sting operations. The CBI filed an FIR naming 12 TMC
leaders and one IPS officer SMH Mirza in the Narada sting scam. With Mr
Chatterjee, the CBI quizzed three TMC leaders , including former India football
star Prasun Banerjee, also MP from Howrah, for past three days and 4th TMC
leader in eight days. On August 31 the CBI questioned TMC MP Aparupa Poddar at
her residence in Hooghly in regarding Narada sting operation. UNI
