Sep 6: In a step forward BJP approached the major tribal based parties of
Tripura IPFT and INPT to join in umbrella of Northeast Democratic Alliance
(NEDA) to unseat left front in upcoming assembly poll. BJP sources said after
holding meeting of NEDA in New Delhi with the direction of BJP Chief Amit Shah,
NEDA Chairman and Assam Finance Minister Dr Hemanta Biswa Sarma spoke to both
the party leaders and invited them to attend NEDA’s meeting scheduled on
September 23 in Guwahati. NEDA Chairman has also reportedly spoken to two other
tribal based groups and invited them too in the meeting, sources said adding
that Amit Shah made it clear to Northeast leaders including Chief Minister of
five BJP ruled state to win remaining three states – Tripura, Meghalaya and
Mizoram at any cost. Former Chief Minister of Mizoram Zoramthanga was also
attended the meeting. “Amit Shah requested the tribal parties of Tripura to
ensure division of opposition vote in upcoming election. As first step of one
on one fight, six Trinamool Congress MLAs along with lakhs of their followers
have merged with BJP last month and now moved unite tribal votes in favour of BJP,”
the BJP leaders said. BJP president Biplab Kumar Deb however, stated that
congress is almost a non-existent party in Tripura and it has been actually
working for the victory of CPI-M, what they did in past elections. But this
time people understood the contribution of congress in bringing CPI(M) in power
and BJP do not consider congress as a factor in the election. “In the core
committee meeting we have been asked to complete micro-level poll management
that includes our booth level leaders to approach the last voters under his
jurisdiction by end of this month and afterward there will be a follow up
activities of the party besides, campaign on pro-people programs of Modi
government,” Mr Deb stated. He further stated that right from electoral roll to
counting of polled EVM would be monitored by the party at various levels to
check any attempt of election manipulation by the ruling party. UNI
