Agartala,
Sept 2: At least nine people, including seven CPI-M workers, were injured
in a clash with BJP at Manpathar of Bir Chandra Manu locality of Shantirbazar
in South Tripura last evening. According to a report, BJP supporters had
accused some local CPI-M cadres of burning the car of one of their workers, in
protest against which CPI-M held rally in the evening. Allegedly, CPI-M
supporters attacked BJP that left seven persons injured. Meanwhile, CPI-M
alleged that BJP supporters had pelted stones at their party office and had
abused their supporters who attended the rally. This led to arguments between
the two groups which later turned violent. The CPI-M lodged complaint with
police against local BJP leader Bashi Debbarma for leading his supporters in
attacking their party office. BJP has also lodged complaint against some local
CPI-M cadres for beating up their workers. Police said both the cases were
being investigated and seven CPI-M supporters and two BJP supporters who had
been injured in the clash, were shifted to Udaipur district hospital at night.
Extra deployment has been made to maintain peace in the area. On the other hand
, fight between CPI-M backed SFI and BJP backed ABVP continued in different
colleges of the state for past three days as soon as the schedule of student
council election was announced. So far, five students were injured of both the
parties and police installed temporary security pickets in the colleges to
ensure peaceful environment, police said adding that college authorities were
also asked to be extra vigilant over the election issues. However, ABVP leaders
alleged that SFI has been forcefully collecting the fee cards of the students
to prevent them from ollecting and submitting nominations for the election but
whoever refused to give their fee cards have been beaten up, as fee cards is a
vital document for collecting and submitting nomination. UNI
