Agartala,
Sep 23: In a letter to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh BJP, Tripura
state committee president Biplab Kumar Deb today demanded Central intervention
in the state following gradual deterioration of law and order situation and
failure of the state to restore normalcy. Besides, Mr Deb asked for CBI probe
into the murder of Santanu Bhowmik and visit of a high power central team to
Tripura. In the letter Mr Deb mentioned, Tripura is heading towards a civil war
like situation with communal clashes and total breakdown of law and order due
to the wrong and partisan policies of the state Government. The BJP warned that
the situation would deteriorate further ‘unless timely intervention is made in
respect of law and order by the Central government’. It said, the Law and order
situation of Tripura has gradually turned volatile due to communal politics of
the ruling CPI(M). The situation of Tripura has now gone beyond all control in
the past few days following clashes between CPI(M) tribal wing Gana Mukti
Parisad (GMP) and IPFT. On September 19 GMP held a rally at Agartala and on
that day more than 150 supporters of both the parties were injured in the
clash, about 13 police vehicles were set on fire and twelve offices of BJP were
burnt / ransacked by CPI(M). “There has been huge protest against this killing
not only by media persons but also public in general and political parties
including BJP. We have demanded that the investigation should be handed over to
CBI on the ground that in cases of murders of Minister, MLAs, Bureaucrats
during CPI(M) rule, the state police failed to make proper investigation in the
past,” it said. The associations of Journalists also demanded CBI investigation
but the Chief Minister has not yet agreed. No compensation to the family
members of the Journalist has yet been announced by the State Government in
spite of demands by all concerned including BJP. “Ruling CPI(M) party has been
dangerously playing a communal game in the State and finding that they would be
ousted from power by BJP in the coming election, they have started a hate
campaign against BJP by way of making baseless, false and fabricated and even
contradictory allegations against BJP. A high power team of the Home Ministry
should immediately visit the various parts of the State including Tribal areas
with a view to find out the ways and means as to save the people of Tripura
from violence and destruction, the letter demanded. UNI
