Bhopal,
Sept 27: Congress General Secretary and former Madhya Pradesh Chief
Minister Digvijaya Singh's revision petition in connection with a defamation
suit filed against Union Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister and senior
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Uma Bharti has been quashed by a local court
here. Ms Bharti had levelled certain allegations against Mr Singh during
assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh in 2003. Mr Singh had filed a defamation
suit against her before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's (CJM) court here. The
court had recorded statements from both the sides in this connection. Mr
Singh's counsel Ajay Gupta sought cross-examination of Ms Bharti's witness
Narendra Birthare on August 17, 2017. However, the court quashed the
application for recalling prosecution witness. Mr Singh had then filed a
revision petition against the CJM's court order before the Sessions Court here.
The latter quashed the revision petition and upheld the lower court order during
the hearing yesterday. UNI
